Ultimately, she is thrown out of the house by Sarbajaya and Indir quietly passes away in the wilderness - a symbolic fate that many like her meet in real life. Despite Sarbajaya's strong disapproval she remains with the family and shares a special bond with Durga. Like most widowed Brahmins of Bengal, she lives a life without love and respect. His best known work is the autobiographical novel, Pather Panchali (The Song of the Road), which was later adapted (along with Aparajito, the sequel) into the Apu Trilogy films. She is the ailing aunt living with the family. Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay (Septem November 1, 1950) was an Indian Bengali author and one of the leading writers of modern Bengali literature.

Although we are told in the film's narrative that Durga is suffering from an unknown illness, her ultimate death at the end of the film comes as the final blow to Sarbajaya. It follows a family’s quest to better their lives by moving from an impoverished Bengal region to the larger city of Kashi/Varanasi in more central-north India. Sarbajaya often channels her annoyance in life at the elderly Indir and the young Durga. Indian-Bengali author Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay published Pather Panchali ( Song of the Little Road) in 1929. She considers her life a burden as she finds herself alone in her struggle, with Harihar being absent for long periods. Throughout the film she is deeply frustrated yet does not seem cynical. Almost nine decades after Bibhuti Bhushan Bandyopadhyay penned the iconic novel Pather Pachali about the journey of Apu the novelist's grandson, Trinankur Banerjee, is scripting a continuation of the story set in modern times. She had dreams of her own but had to forsake them while managing the family with the paltry sum that Harihar makes. Sarbajaya, Harihar's wife, is another central character in the film.
